The I-95/I-695 interchange, located in Baltimore County, will be totally
reconstructed in multiple phases. The
project area extends along I-95 from the Kenwood Avenue overpass
to south of the Rossville Boulevard overpass, and along I-695 from
west of the Lillian Holt Drive overpass to the I-695/Philadelphia Road (MD
Route 7) interchange.
The new interchange is necessary in order to realign the
existing travel (general-purpose) lanes and to add the new
Express Toll LanesSM (ETLsSM)
along I-95. During the first phase of construction, a new,
reconfigured four-level interchange for general-purpose
roadways and ramps was constructed. All new ramps have been completed and opened to traffic. Also, the Kenwood Avenue and Lillian Holt Drive
replacement overpass bridges have been completed.
The next phase of construction will start by fall 2011 and include the construction of two ETLs mainline bridges that will carry northbound and southbound ETLs traffic through the I-695 interchange.
